Australian Rates Tracker

Tax brackets, HECS thresholds, stamp duty scales, Centrelink rates, rego fees — the numbers behind our 125 calculators are government-set and change all year round, not just on 1 July. This page shows how we keep them honest.

How it works

STEP 1

Watch

Every ATO, state-revenue, Services Australia and transport-authority page behind our numbers is monitored for changes weekly.

STEP 2

Verify

A flagged change is never applied blindly — each one is re-checked against the primary government source (and rejected if the page merely changed layout).

STEP 3

Ship

Confirmed changes go live on the website and stream to the iOS and Android apps the same day — no app-store update needed.

NSW stamp duty thresholds indexed for 2026-27

Revenue NSW re-indexed its transfer (stamp) duty bracket thresholds for the 2026-27 financial year (they rise with CPI each 1 July). Every band moved up — e.g. the $372,000/3.5% boundary is now $387,000, and the premium-property threshold rose from $3.721M to $3.87M. Our NSW Stamp Duty, First Home Buyer and Rent vs Buy calculators now use the current scale, so duty on a typical purchase is slightly lower than on the old thresholds (a $700,000 home is $25,687, down from $25,912). Also corrected: the Tasmania first-home-buyer established-home duty exemption is recorded as ended (it finished 30 June 2026).

Medicare Levy Surcharge thresholds indexed for 2026-27

The Medicare Levy Surcharge income thresholds rose with 1 July 2026 indexation. Singles: the surcharge now starts at $105,001 (1%), $123,001 (1.25%) and $164,001 (1.5%) — up from $101,001/$118,001/$158,001. Families: $210,001 / $246,001 / $328,001 (plus $1,500 per dependent child after the first). The Medicare Levy and Income Tax calculators now use these figures, so fewer people just under the old thresholds are flagged for the surcharge. Also refreshed: the maximum GST credit claimable on a novated-lease car rose to $6,353 (1/11 of the $69,883 car limit).

Data refresh: Parental Leave Pay, ASIC fees and state rego figures

A source-monitoring sweep against official government sites picked up a few figures to refresh. Parental Leave Pay is now the exact Services Australia rate — $1,004.70 per week / $200.94 per day (was showing $1,004.90/$200.98). The ASIC company annual review fee rose with 1 July 2026 indexation to $342 (from $329), and the special-purpose (SMSF trustee) company fee to $70. Several 1 July 2026 vehicle registration figures were updated: QLD car/EV CTP (~$418) and motorcycle CTP ($442.60), the NSW motorcycle fee ($171), and the WA mass-based car/EV licence fee (~$506, as the rate rose to $29.76 per 100kg). Most other flagged sources were confirmed unchanged.

Corrected the minimum wage figure on the hourly-to-salary tool

One reference on the Hourly to Salary calculator still quoted the older $24.10/hour minimum wage. It now shows the current national minimum wage that applied from 1 July 2026 — $26.44/hour ($1,004.70/week). Separately, salary pages in the Medicare levy shade-in band (incomes between $28,011 and $35,013) now describe the levy as a reduced low-income rate rather than a flat 2%.

Offset calculator now shows the correct daily interest saving

The Offset Account calculator described the offset benefit as a per-day interest saving but showed the loan-life average (which also counts paying the loan off years early). It now shows the true daily interest you avoid by offsetting — your offset balance times the daily interest rate — while the total-interest-saved headline continues to reflect the full lifetime benefit.

Refreshed to the 2026-27 financial year across the site

Following the 1 July rate changeover, the homepage, comparison guides and calculator labels now consistently show the 2026-27 financial year (a few still read 2025-26). The Sole Trader vs Pty Ltd worked example was recalculated on the new 15% second-bracket rate, and the salary after-tax pages now itemise gross income tax and the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO) as separate lines that correctly add up to the total tax.

Fixed ACT foreign buyer surcharge — it's an annual land tax, not stamp duty

The Stamp Duty calculator was adding a 0.75% one-off surcharge to conveyance duty for foreign buyers in the ACT. The ACT actually charges no foreign purchaser stamp duty surcharge — its 0.75% Foreign Ownership Surcharge is an annual land tax on the property's Average Unimproved Value (already handled by the Land Tax calculator). ACT foreign buyers no longer see a bogus upfront charge, and the ACT FAQ and tips now describe the annual land tax surcharge correctly. The Land Tax calculator was already correct.

Corrected Tasmania foreign buyer stamp duty surcharge in the FAQs

Our Tasmania and Northern Territory FAQ and guide text wrongly stated that Tasmania charges no foreign buyer surcharge. Tasmania in fact levies an 8% Foreign Investor Duty Surcharge on residential property (1.5% on primary production land), the same rate as Victoria and Queensland — and our Stamp Duty calculator already applied it. The text now matches: the NT is the only jurisdiction with no foreign buyer stamp duty surcharge.
